LEC celebrated 50 years in business on April 1, 2025 since David and Christine Bergmann parents started Laketown Electric Corporation! Originally, David started as a union contractor in 1975, under the name Bergmann Electric. In 1981, he had issues with the union rejecting his employees, so he became a merit shop contractor under our current name.
Matt Bergmann joined LEC in 2011 during the tail end of the recession when the company needed help acquiring new business as a company of 12 strong. David unexpectedly passed away of a stroke at age 60 in late 2012. Everything went to my Christine upon his passing, and the company had to plead with the bank to not pull its nearly full credit line. In 2014, the credit line was paid back, and LEC had the means to reinvest in our business and grow.
In 2016, Chris and Matt Bergmann I bought the remaining shares of the business. In 2018, LEC acquired Javens Electric of Mankato. Five years ago, Matt Bergmann became sole owner of LEC.
As we look towards record revenues and employee headcount for 2025, our path has not been without its ups and downs. We are grateful for the support of our team, customers, suppliers, industry partners and the communities we live in for their unwavering support!
To celebrate, we are taking a cruise with employees and guests on May 16th with Al & Alma’s on Lake Minnetonka!
